Reports of violations of lobbyist disclosure, 1970-1986.

To assist the state secretary's office in fulfilling its responsibility to administer laws and regulations governing the activities of legislative agents (lobbyists) employed by special interest groups, the Public Records Division, specifically from the 1980s through its Lobbyist Section, inspects all financial disclosure statements filed according to MGLA c 3, ss 43, 44, 47, to determine if any employers of agents, organizations without agents, or agents have failed to file. The division is responsible for sending a report to the attorney general if filing is not completed. Files for 1975-1981 also include general annual lists of agents and organizations. Regulation of the activities of legislative agents in the Commonwealth began in 1890.
